I WEAR MY SUNGLASSES AT NIGHT WELL WHENEVER I NEED TO IF YOU MUST ASK!
As I am quickly approaching the big 4-0 I am finding more of a need for things I never wanted or at least wanted to be rid of as I got older. I mean this in a couple ways but both are due to age. First, I am very lucky to have been and still consider myself a pretty healthy person. No major illnesses, accidents, near death experiences to date. However, as I age I am finding that I am experiencing these things, surprises, with my body that I never wanted, nor did I ask for but I am learning to live with them and I guess I am learning to accommodate my lifestyle to whatever my ailment is. Sure, I have had my share of recent foot pain, back pain, etc. These are all things that most people can see when I am suffering from them due to the way I am walking or the grimace on my face. However some of us suffer from other types of issues in silence and do what we need to do but don’t let it ruin our day until someone ruins ours! The other need I am having that I never wanted is this need to explain myself. Fortunately, I don’t feel this urge to call and confront anyone on a one on one basis. That is just a waste of my time. And trying to explain how I am feeling to some stranger at the given moment I am taken aback just seems useless…..so here is my outlet.
I shall set the stage for the day in question so you can get a clear picture as to who you are dealing with. On this particular day I was scheduled to go get my hair cut and colored. Let’s back up…my original appointment was scheduled about a month prior and boy did I need it done. But it was my mother in law’s 80th birthday and nobody was taking the initiative to plan her a party that was fitting for a milestone birthday. Now if you know our relationship, it is not bad but it is not close. How easy it would’ve been for me to just wait it out and see what happened. Nope, not my style. I planned the best birthday party ever and rescheduled my appointment. In the meantime, I am on a social media site and happen to see a transplant blast the salon I go to telling everyone not to go there, how horrible the salon is, and to go to this place she goes to now. Being a local who appreciates hard workers and knows how difficult it is to be in business for yourself in a small town stood up for my stylist making sure that everyone who read that post knew that this salon was a mix of stylists who came together and rent their own space and that one experience or one stylist should not turn everyone off from an entire business. That is like saying never go to Beebe Hospital because of one quack doctor. I’m sorry, I am personal friends with many nurses who work there and would trust my life with them! Anyway, it finally came to the day of my appointment and any lady knows you want to relax so I wore my glasses and left them in the glove box since you really can’t wear them when you get your hair done and just wore my prescription sunglasses. Between the smells of color, those wonderful neck breaking shampooers, and all of the drying my day of relaxation turns into a migraine trigger fest. Thing is my days never stop so I had to leave there, get gas, and then get a card for a 50th anniversary vow renewal. I figured I would just run and do that real quick on my way home. No big deal. I got the gas first then ran into the drug store in the next parking lot to get the card. Even though I wasn’t at my best the lady in the card aisle with me sneezed a couple times and who was the only person that turned and said “Bless You”….HMMMM? Anyway, I chose a card real fast and went up to the register. There was one woman ahead of me but when I approached the counter the young clerk’s demeanor seemed to change. I said hello and asked her how she was. She didn’t say much, seemed a little stuck up and snippy, just rang up my card, and told me how much it was. I wondered why she didn’t ask me for my discount card as she did the customers ahead of me. So, I didn’t question her. I just said “would you mind if I put my phone number in for points or the discount”…….like I was guilty of something. Really? Was it the sunglasses….my prescription sunglass that offended her? Did I really deserve to be treated different than everyone else because I didn’t make eye contact? So….I decided, let me post something on social media to see if I am really losing my mind. Because it seems to me that in these days us people that used to be the norm are having tolerance of the weirdest shit shoved down our throats while others are just choosing to be offended over the most minor things without giving it a thought. Anyway, bottom line, the one comment that resonated with me is that I was told I was rude. Me, rude? Did you even ask me the series of events? Do you really even know me? I could go on and on about everything in this world that is being forced down my throat that I am told to accept for myself and my child that I would have thought 20 years ago is rude but if I comment on it I would be crucified. My point is, I walked into a pharmacy, my pharmacy, an almost 40 year old female with prescription sunglasses on. There is a certain level of compassion that anyone working in a pharmacy should have whether you work in the front or the back. I come into your sister store frequently to pick up my 3 medications for migraines and migraine induced seizures. There also may be folks entering your establishment who wear sunglasses due to bruises from domestic situations or are embarrassed for something else they may have going on that they are being treated for. Trust me, if I didn’t offer the same options to my clientele just because they walked in to my place of business not dressed appropriately, with a cell phone, with an attitude, or with their wawa coffee I guarantee you I would be the one “on trial.”
